About the Artist

I am native of Cleveland, Ohio, that is where lived since I was born there in 1969 – or rather; it is where I used to live until I moved to Austin in April 2012 to be with the woman I love, Kate. I earned Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Cleveland State University, and I have been a “computer” guy for most of my life. Born with cerebral palsy, I am a quadriplegic and use a communication device to speak.

One evening, when I was talking with Kate and her father and stepmother (who is an artist), they mentioned a handicapped man who painted with his foot. I said that I had painted with my head when I was a child. They asked me why I stopped, and I responded, “I didn’t have a good answer!” So, they bought me paint and brushes and helped me get set up. They fixed a special headpointer for me to use. That was in January 2014 and it feels amazing to be making art again after such a long time. I had no idea I could do the things I do!

During my first few years in Austin, I have had the great privilege to be involved with two organizations that helped me develop my artistic and creative side. First, I am a proud part of the Opening Minds, Opening Doors program at VSA Arts Texas where I develop personal stories that promote self-advocacy with my fellow writer and present them at conferences throughout Texas. I am also a part of a community of artist with disabilities at Imagine Art studios. At Imagine Art, I get support and guidance from the staff and other artist to improve my artwork.
